A Grain of Truth Is Better Than a Pack of Lies

A physicist who hails from Pittsburgh and who is now retired had this to say: "Retirement is just fine as long as you keep your curiosity." Now, the Old Baguette recognizes a grain of truth when she chews on it, so she shared it with friends. All found the grain tasty and true. Among the reactions she remembers: "Of course." "Couldn't be truer." "Retirement isn't scary. Curiosity is scary." Oh, the wonderful, unnecessary tidbits one discovers simply by being curious.

1. Flintstone Chewables are a super iron supplement.
2. The son of a great Scandinavian sailboat architect was the architect who designed the opera
house in Sydney.
3. Beef Strogonov should not be made with hamburger.
4. When the Old Baguette was in 3rd grade, the Unitarians believed in the fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man, and the leadership of Jesus Christ. (So said the Encyclopedia Americana of that era.)

The Old Baguette has a list of items she intends to "look up" someday.

1. What musical has the song with the line: Standing on the corner watching all
the girls go by . . . .
2. Who's the patron saint of computers?
3. Do the Unitarians still believe in the fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man, and the leadership of Jesus Christ?
4. The administration and faculty of the School of Health Systems Management of the Rush Presbyterian Medical Center had a celebratory dinner. At that dinner, they had a roll fight. Has the administration and faculty of any other Medical Center ever had a roll fight? If not, why not?

Yes, curiosity is scary. One can be haunted by what one discovers in perpetuity. Ergo, one must research with care.

  1. Old Baguette.....Sextant invited me over to check out your blog.

Retirement...Yes, Sextant is on the verge of retiring, and isn't overly excited about that fact. I've tried to assuage his fears. Perhaps you'll have to try and lifts his spirits a tad.

I retired over 3 years ago, and I heartily recommend it. As you so aptly advise..retirement isn't scary.........but one does need to keep busy and keep curious.

BTW.....Interesting blog you have. I shall want to read some of your earlier posts.

    No worries
    Cheers

  2. Beware my dear Old Baguette. The Busman is a going to heaven Lutheran with no ticket to hell. I don't know if I can trust him around a good wholesome Catholic girl.

Well in spite of his heavenly aspirations and a strange desire to ride around in old Volkswagen vans, the Busman is a greenhouse philosopher with both feet planted firmly on the Earth (often in 2 feet of water). Something of a Canadian Will Rogers. I think you find him a welcome presence on your blog.

VW Busman, the Old Baguette is a wonderful friend who just disappears from the face of the Earth for weeks at a time. You will have to get used to this trait. Perhaps she is a witch and goes of to boil some oil and trouble in the north woods. Then again she may be in some ultra secret Catholic society to keep and eye on us damned Lutherans, she probably jets off to the Vatican to submit reports then reappears with claims of a junk computer.
