Mon Dieu! What Would Mother Say?

Before I became an Old Baguette, I was a Young Petite Pain. Petite, not Petit. Note that "e" at the end of the word. I've been leaving it off altogether. Mon Dieu and Sacre Bleu! What would my mother the French teacher say? One would think I'd be able to spell such a basic French bakery item after I'd spent so much time in French bakeries here and abroad. One would be wrong. One would be correct, however, to assume that my musings have always been crumby.

Today, a young woman scheduling appointments at a doctor's office repeatedly called me "Sweetie." Was my blood sugar off the charts? Did I need insulin? I got out of the office in time.

  1. At least she did not call you Sweetheart. Then you would of had to worry about your blood sugar levels and cardiac arrest.

You are correct, Old Baguette, you got out of there just in the nick of time!

  2. Years ago my wife went to see a new gyno guy due to a change in insurance at work. I asked her how her appointment went. "Good" she replied, "he is the first of his ilk that didn't call me sweetheart, honey, dear, or babe."

I replied, "Babe? You have had gyno guys call you babe?" "Yes!"

She still has the same doctor and every once in a while I ask if he has ever reverted to the labels. Not once.

  3. Babe! Just hope her doctor is as good as his language. I had neck surgery done by an artist, probably one of the world's best. As for his language? The nurse of another one of my doctors said the two of them were on the hospital elevator. They didn't know each other, and nurses, like nuns, no longer have identifying features like caps. He leaned forward and said, "You have lipstick on your teeth." You gotta love it. Anyway, I'm delighted your wife's doctor is one of rare ilk.

  4. Ellen-is this the photo from Clean Water? You look very efficient. It's a can-do at Kinhdo next weekend, if you can!
