Minneapolis had a spectacular blizzard this December. Drifts are deep. Mounds created by snowplows are higher than the eye of just about any elephant the Old Baguette ever saw. These mountains from on high are probably going to be with us until spring. By the time they melt, they're going to look pretty grimy. You betcha! Last night and this morning a gentle snow fell steadily. We'd expected those drifts and mounds to be eyesores, but the two or three inches of newly fallen snow has made Minneapolis a wonderland of white. Minnesotans love to decorate their yards, their houses, their trees, their fences, their parks, their cars. The city is sparkling with lights of every color. The Christmas trees inside houses seem fuller and fresher than the trees we used to put up down South in Chicago. There are no "holes" where a branch should be. The needles are thick, and the smell of pine perfumes the houses. Some houses are perfumed by lutefisk. You betcha!
The Old Baguette has been baking bread and looking for the peanuts she bought for peanut brittle. She sought but did not find. There will be no peanut brittle on Christmas Day even though peanut brittle was promised. Tonight she'll be going to Midnight Mass which will be celebrated in the gym at 10 P.M. As usual, the gym will be beautifully decorated.
May each of you have the holiday your heart desires!
The Old Baguette
Thank you Old Baguette, and may you have a most wonderfully merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
