A Celebration to Write Home About

The Old Baguette was invited to a birthday party last Saturday. What a bash! For a change, the sun was bright, the weather cool and dry. Recently, skies have been a gloomy gray, and rains have been frequent and torrential, a pain for humans, but good for lawns. This particular lawn is perfect for a perfect celebration. Not only large and incredibly green, it slopes down to the Mississippi. Everywhere, the views of the river as it races to the sea are breathtaking. White tables large enough to seat eight were set up all over to accommodate the many guests. Heaven knows how many there were. Actually, it was a posh mob scene, rather like a wedding reception. And absolutely every one of us in that mob is a good friend of the birthday "girl." We were there at the invitation of her children to help her celebrate her 80th birthday. Yes, her 80th. How many 80 year olds have a mob of good friends? This was no ordinary party because my friend is remarkable, memorable. She deserved a remarkable, memorable party.

  1. I am going to be a smart aleck, and simply make the observation that the breath taking views of the Mississippi racing to the sea could be shared by posting a photo. Yeah, I know, I am being a PIA.

The party sounded wonderful and your friend must be one special person. Nice of the weather to behave itself.
